Democrats Move to Weaken Election Laws Through the Courts

Raleigh, NC – With only 41 days before the election and absentee ballots already being cast, the North Carolina Board of Elections led by Governor Cooper colluded with liberal legal activists to wildly change election laws in North Carolina. The agreement includes the following changes:

  1. Rewriting the statutory deadline for the receipt of absentee ballots.

  2. Subverting the absentee ballot witness requirement agreed to in the Bipartisan Elections Act of 2020.

  3. Rewriting the statutory definition of “postmark”

  4. Weakening protections against ballot harvesting

Chairman Hall offered the following statement:

“Just like they did with Voter I.D., Roy Cooper and Josh Stein are undermining the will of the people and the integrity of elections by using so-called settlements with left wing legal activists”, said House Committee on Elections and Ethics Chairman Destin Hall.

“It is a shame that these Democrats would rather sue to win instead of running candidates that represent the values of North Carolinians.”
