Legislative Update: House Bill 370

Last week, House Bill 370 went before the Senate Judiciary committee for initial review. It will likely be heard again by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

In the news today, Governor Mike Desantis signed S168 into law in Florida. S168 creates a new chapter of Florida Statutes entitled “Federal Immigration Enforcement.” The bill is very similar to H370 in that it seeks to ensure that state and local entities and law enforcement agencies cooperate with federal government officials to remove illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

It is encouraging to see other states take a stand against partisan policies that put the public at risk. It is expected that H370 will receive a favorable report from the Senate Judiciary, where it will then continue to Senate Rules Committee, and then on to the Senate chamber for a final vote.

We will continue to provide updates on this legislation as it progresses.
